Private health-insurance cost calculator (2026)
This tool estimates what a household would pay for ACA Marketplace coverage in 2026 before any subsidy, using the county's second-lowest-cost silver benchmark (from CMS PY2026 data on our released city pages), and whether the household would qualify for a premium tax credit at all under the restored 400% federal poverty level cliff. The 2026 subsidy cliff is $62.6k for a household of one and rises by household size (200% and 400% FPL points shown below). If you're over the cliff, you pay the full sticker price — this tool shows you roughly what that looks like and hands you off to the right conversation.

How this estimate is built
- Poverty thresholds: 2025 HHS Poverty Guidelines (48 contiguous states + DC). Household of 1 = $15,650, +$5,500 per additional person.
- Subsidy cliff: hard 400% FPL cutoff (2026 — enhanced ARP/IRA subsidies expired at the end of 2025).
- Benchmark: county-level second-lowest-cost silver plan at age 40, from CMS PY2026 data on our released city pages when your ZIP maps to one; otherwise a national-average fallback.
- We do NOT compute your exact subsidy dollar (that requires the full applicable-percentage-of-income table and your county's benchmark). The tool tells you whether a subsidy applies — the exact number comes from HealthCare.gov or a licensed agent.
